The Fragile System
by Brooke Yool

The human body -- an amazing machine. We possess just the right combination of specialized cells, tissues, and fluids; add the electrical impulse of the heart, and rudimentary life is achieved. Really, it's miraculous how everything comes together in synchrony, as just a minor mishap can send our ideal system awry.

Yet still we run marathons, drink our brains out, eat to oblivion, climb perilous rock faces, careen down white water rapids, work and toil until the boss is satisfied, bungee jump, leap tall buildings in a single bound, drive recklessly while talking on the cell phone in rush hour, smoke a pack a day, jump to conclusions, use harsh words in our relationships with those we care about... and not give a thought to the fact that we are indeed walking miracles.

Hug your loved ones today, and let them know you mean it.
