See Brooke Run.
Run, Brooke, Run!
OK, so I'll never be in the Olympics. I'll never sprint 'round the
track like the folks you see on ESPN. But hey... I do it 'cuz I enjoy
it and what it does for me! That's what counts, right?
Why do I run? Check here to find out more.
Where and how do I run? Well... I ran my first marathon
on July 13, 1997, here in San Francisco. That's right, 26.2 miles. But that's a long way! Yup. I've done it before, and I'll do it again. One
of these days. Don't have a strong desire to run another marathon just yet.
I was also a team captain for the 1998 version of the wild 'n' crazy Hood to Coast Relay, a relay race from Mount Hood to Seaside, OR. That's nearly 200 miles! And yes, we were awake the whole time...
Almost three years ago (egads!) I finished my third and last marathon -- the Mayor's Midnight Sun Marathon in Anchorage, AK, was run June 19th, 1999. Read all about it here!
In addition, I trained for my first marathon through the Team in Training
program, put on by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America. It's a great program in which expert coaches lead novice and experienced runners through a training
program while the runners train and raise money for leukemia and lymphoma research. It's
been lots of fun; and since I first completed the program in Spring 1997,
I've mentored new runners in the program in the fall of '97 and the spring of '98; I became a team captain during the fall 1998 season.
It's great to be able to pass on the wisdom (?) that I picked up during my
first round of marathon training.
